Sea Siblings (#302)

This tempera and vinyl painting on MDF panel offers a bird’s eye view of the Duboscq shipyard in Granville. Seen from above, boats resemble migrating birds, resting on the coasts before their leave for new destinations. A hundred years ago, my great-grandfather, a Russian exile who had been swept away to France by a wave of migration, probably observed the ocean from the same point of view without yet knowing that France would become his second homeland.
