In creating this painting, I was drawn to the serene yet commanding presence of historical architecture bathed in the vibrant midday sun. Using tempera, I employed techniques of impressionism to capture the play of light and shadow, while maintaining a realistic foundation that anchors the scene. This piece evokes a sense of timeless stability and the quiet mood of a sunny afternoon, inviting viewers into a moment of calmness and reflection. The artwork brings a warm, inviting energy to any space, enhancing the sense of peace and historical beauty. This painting is inspired by the contrast between the blue sky and the brightness of the white stones of the La Rochelle Towers on a summer’s day. Nothing is more important in painting than to observe, to try to soak up the lights, the colours, the aromas, the tactile sensations of the place. All this will be transformed into a work of art. Thus the emotion of the artist will be shared by the one who will look at the painting, as if the two went by the same way under the midday sun. from La Rochelle to the midday sun
