A wooden book inspired by the structure of a retable. The image of a fabric white as snow, stretched over a round wooden embroidery hoop, with a needle blackening in this fabric, like a scar, appeared in my imagination spontaneously, entirely. It’s hard for me to explain why. This image is associated with that of a woman who embroiders and thinks while working of someone who is far away. And a poem in Russian appeared:
In the field, in the sea
In the forest, in the meadow,
Run my thread
Sew a straight and smooth path
Up to the home
For my friend
Sew two lives,
His and mine.
The board I worked with has a nice contrasting texture. There were two distinct dark spots in the wood fibers of the trees. One became the closing of the drum. The second, taller, on the back of the board, had a clean silhouette of a half-turned head, with a silhouette of the ear and beginning of the neck. This is how the image of two figures appeared.
