Front of the Abeille Bourbon in the Sun (#394)

Small original tempera painting on watercolour paper
Size: 21×33 cm (8×13 in)
Format: horizontal
This work was created on the spot in the industrial port of Brest.
The Abeille Bourbon is a French high seas emergency tow vessel (salvage tug). It is based in Brest and ensures the maritime safety of the Ouessant rail. She has a remarkable aesthetic appearance: slender bow, rounded decks and meticulous finishes.
The general shape of the vessel is a compromise between the search for speed, traction power, the specific needs of salvage and recent advances in offshore supply vessels.
One can feel the warm, iodized air, impregnated with the smell of the sea. The harbour atmosphere is evoked by bright colours: ultramarine blue, scarlet red, brown, light blue.
