Constellation Aries, the Ram (#496)

It is the second work in a series about Armenia and Georgia which I’ve never visited. And the first painting in the series about the constellations. It is about the mystery that the cosmos keeps over our heads. Two worlds, high and low, heavenly and earthly. Their unity and opposition are expressed here in colour. The thick and dense red-brown colour of the earth, from which the silhouettes of the ancient stone churches rise. The brilliant veil of blue in which two constellations rise triumphantly as a pure revelation of the celestial mystery.
Thanks to its shiny surface, the painting provokes different emotions depending on the lighting. Here I show you two examples!
When I finished this painting, I realised that one of the sources of inspiration came from the images in Sergei Eisenstein’s films. The celestial bull in “General Line” is one of them. Some years ago, when I was writing my dissertation on the status of drawing in Eisenstein’s work, I looked through thousands of photograms of this brilliant composer of visual meanings. Now they are unconsciously sprouting new artistic images from me.
