The theme of boats and navigation is closely linked to the artist’s family history. Many of his relatives and close friends are seafarers. Some of them have sailed for many years on the waves of the whole world, and in particular in the Arctic zone, from Greenland to Canada, in the footsteps of one of their great-grandfathers, one of the last Newfoundlanders of the first half of the 20th century.
Their world is one of inner freedom, responsibility and discipline, mutual aid, respect and immense love for life. For Olga Kataeva-Rochford, the theme of the seas is related to the age-old dream of exploring infinite space, where the boat is a home, a floating cathedral, a constructive human will, infinitely courageous in the face of the immense elements.
Sea Siblings (#302)
This tempera and vinyl painting on MDF panel offers a bird’s eye view of the Duboscq shipyard in Granville. Seen from above, boats resemble migrating “Sea Siblings (#302)”
Gallic Blue (#301)

Return of The Old Friends (#300)
In this painting, I’ve captured the essence of a rustic seascape, blending impressionism with a touch of realism. Using tempera, which lends a delicate texture, “Return of The Old Friends (#300)”
On the Eve of a New Departure (#299)
There is something profoundly monumental in the slender silhouettes of the ships in dry dock. We realize the dynamism of the lines and the fluidity “On the Eve of a New Departure (#299)”
Facing the Ocean (#298)
Many of my relatives and friends in France are part of a beautiful family of seafarers. They are the ones who welcomed me to a “Facing the Ocean (#298)”
Seafaring Workers (#289)
Shipyards (Granville, France) and Bernard shipyards [Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, France). It’s always a moving moment to approach an old fishing boat. We observe the living texture of “Seafaring Workers (#289)”
