This artwork was produced from life at the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace in Le Bourget (France). This astronaut in a spacesuit, alone in black space, symbolically expresses our existential solitude. We are open to the world during childhood, but as we grow older we gradually build up a protective layer between ourselves and the surrounding universe. Will we have the courage to step outside? This work is also an artist’s reaction to a strange situation of confinement that we are experiencing in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic. We are all confined in our spacesuits, exploring and even rediscovering ourselves in this isolation, in the weightlessness of our new solitude.
