This painting is inspired by the view from the artist’s studio in France of a neighbour’s garden. In the middle of this orchard there is a persimmon tree. This beautiful tree changes with the seasons, but the most beautiful moment is the harvest in autumn. The gardener’s ladder is already ready for the harvest. The orange fruits evoke Chinese and Japanese paintings. Their freshness and sweet, tender taste remind us of childhood. The intense colour of the persimmons is highlighted by the dark wall behind them. This joyful contrast makes the orange-red colour really bright.
