This tempera painting on canvas represents a braid of garlic bulbs suspended in a net, like birds caught in a cage. A single green plant stands out against a monochrome background, set off in a joyful escape in pursuit of the sun. While the other bulbs remain immersed in their sleep, this surviving plant courageously seeks the path to the sky, the light and spring.

This still life is almost monochrome: on a dark background created with white, brown (burnt umber, sepia) and black, bright patches of green emerge.
