this work, I sought to blend the potent warmth of impressionism with the depth of realism, expressing the enduring majesty of an ancient château embraced by a timeless tree. The bold strokes and vibrant contrasts of oil pastel and tempera bring to life the dynamic interplay of light and shadow, evoking a sense of history, stability, and nature’s enduring strength. This piece invites the viewer to feel the serenity and awe of enduring legacies, energizing any space with its vivid emotive colors and compelling narrative.A painting from a series of 10 landscapes made en plein air during 6 days of the artistic residency at the Château du Rivau from June 29th to July 4th, 2020.
The challenge was new and rather difficult in this magical place full of mysteries, but also motivating: to work on relatively large formats compared to those used outdoors. And also to share time between painting, demonstrations, interviews, setting up the exhibition, welcoming the public.
I fell completely in love with the humanist atmosphere and the feeling of deep respect that this place emits. Humanist in the sense of the Renaissance, where man seeks to create a beautiful harmonious universe uniting the arts, sciences, nature, the joy of living and creating.
Respect for nature and its resources, for the people who work in the gardens and in the services of the castle.
